December 24, 1964 In a 3-day string of bad weather around the Christmas holidays, tornadoes, thunderstorms and hail cause 2 deaths and injure 20. More than 10 million dollars in damage is the result of this storm system. Hardest hit were Jones County, where a tornado killed 2 and injured 16, and Meriwether County where 2.5 inches of hail fell in a short period of time.

December 24, 1968 The crew members of the U. S. S. Pueblo are released after Major General Gilbert Woodward signed an apology. Dean Rusk, who had been heavily involved the negotiations, had Woodward sign a document disavowing any wrongdoing, stating the US did not apologize, and that the only reason the U. S. signed the document was to free the prisoners. Rusk publicly labeled the apology as "...a lie" before it was signed.

Bobby Herbert, filling in for an injured Jeff George, powers the Atlanta Falcons to a 28-27 win over the World Champion San Francisco 49er's with two touchdowns, the second one coming with less than two minutes remaining in the game, gaining the Falcons a berth in the NFC playoffs
