May 2, 1774 Wanting to return to Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin turns over the job of Georgia's colonial agent to Grey Elliot.

May 2, 1953 Marion Ennis and Pete Bivins are shot and killed. Marion Stembridge, a local storeowner who committed the murders then turns the gun on himself. This incident, which occurred in Milledgeville, became the setting for the book Paris Trout
May 2, 1981 21-year old Danny Hansford is shot and killed by Jim Williams, who claimed he was acting in self defense

May 2, 1982 The Weather Channel begins broadcasting from a building in Cobb County
  Cobb County, Georgia
May 2, 2003 Strong thunderstorms brought rain, high-speed winds and damaging hail to a wide portion of the state. Only the extreme northeast and southeast sections were spared.
