October 19, 1738 In a letter to the Trustees, Oglethorpe accuses Thomas Causton, former magistrate of Savannah, of "squandering the resources of the colony," and continues to state "If this had not happened the Colony...[would be] in a flourishing condition"

October 19, 1911 Aviator Eugene Ely dies when his Curtiss bi-plane crashed during an airshow in Macon. Within the past year Ely had become the first man to take-off from a U. S. Navy vessel and land on a U. S. Navy ship.

October 19, 2009 The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports on "statistically unlikely" improvements in federally mandated student testing. They find 12 schools in the Atlanta area out of 19 in the state meet their criteria and begin an investigation.
