Georgia's Indian Heritage
First to inhabit the land we call Georgia were Paleolithic and Woodland Indians. Moundbuilders came from the West, flourishing until the 1400's. Creek and Cherokee then called this land home.
The Age of Exploration in Georgia
Georgia's first European visitors may have been Spanish explorers who moved inland from the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico.
Colonial Georgia
James Oglethorpe becomes trustee of the colony of Georgia, created to form a buffer between South Carolina and Florida.
The American Revolution in Georgia
Georgia would become the only state completely controlled by the English during the American Revolution
Constitutional Georgia
After the American Revolution Georgia expanded towards the West, eventually forcing the Creek and Cherokee from their home
Antebellum Georgia
After dealing with its 'indian problems' on the western frontier, Georgia concentrated on building railroads and the city of Atlanta

From the taking of Fort Pulaski to the surrender of Jeff Davis in Irwinville
Reconstruction Georgia
Georgia would have to be Reconstructed three times before the North was satisified with the outcome of the process.
