Name derivation:Named in honor of Robert Milner Echols, who served in the Mexican-American War, earning a brevet to Brigadier General under the command of Winfield ScottAs Scott moved west from Vera Cruz he engaged the enemy. During this battle Echols was thrown from his horse. He later died from his injuries.
