May 13, 2005 Department of Defense recommends 5 bases from Georgia be closed

  Cobb County, Georgia
  Fulton County, Georgia
  Clarke County, Georgia
  Floyd County, Georgia

BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) Committee recommended the following base closings in Georgia:

Fort Gillem Atlanta
Fort McPherson Atlanta
Inspector/Instructor office, Rome
Naval Air Station Atlanta (Marietta)
Naval Supply Corps School, Athens
U.S. Army Reserve Center, Columbus
Peachtree Leases Atlanta
BRAC also released a list of bases that will gain because of the closings:

Dobbins Air Reserve Base
Fort Benning
Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany
Moody Air Force Base
Robins Air Force Base
Savannah International Airport Air Guard Station
Submarine Base Kings Bay
