Engineer and explorer who first climbed Pike's Peak (Zebulon Pike actually climbed the wrong mountain), but graciously named the peak after the earlier explorer. He began the work on the Western and Atlantic Railroad in 1837 only to be removed by the Georgia legislature in 1840 for slow work.
