March 31, 1961 F3 tornado strikes Dooly County, killing 1 and injuring 14. More than 2.5 million dollars in damage. Tornadoes also strike Schley, Houstoun, Pulaski, Bleckley, Laurens, Worth and Tattnall counties.

Name derivation:Named in honor of Josiah Tattnall, popular commander in the Georgia Navy during the War Between the States. Following the defeat of the Confederacy, Tattnall fled to Canada, where he remained for 4 years. He returned, serving as inspector for the port of Savannah
