January 9, 1869 Open house held at the Kimball Opera House for reporters, businessmen and civic leaders.
January 12, 1869 Kimball Opera House opens for business in Atlanta, Georgia.
January 15, 1869 End of the Ogeechee Revolt. By this time white troops had secured the land between the Ogeechees from the former slaves that were holding it.
June 1, 1869 Building of Morehouse College (formerly the Augusta Baptist Institute) begins.
September 24, 1869 A proposal by Dr. Daniel O'Keefe lays out a plan for the establishment of public schools in Atlanta. Under it, a board of Education is elected the following year and some students begin attending school in 1872.
