January 3, 1911 Joseph Rucker Lamar takes his oath of office for the Supreme Court

October 11, 1911 Allen G. Newman's Peace Monument, a symbol of the reconciliation that occurred between the North and the South is dedicated at Atlanta's Piedmont Park

October 19, 1911 Aviator Eugene Ely dies when his Curtiss bi-plane crashed during an airshow in Macon. Within the past year Ely had become the first man to take-off from a U. S. Navy vessel and land on a U. S. Navy ship.
